OWEN SOUND SET TO ROCK JULY 3

Submission      OS Events
6/29/2010

The Hottest Yard Sale takes place Saturday, July 3 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the heart of Owen Sound, with free parking and admission. Spanning four city blocks, the event conjures up a carnival atmosphere, with live entertainment, shows, and over 250 participating stores.

The West Hill reunion runs from Friday to Sunday and anyone who has ever attended, taught or worked at the school is invited. Details are available at www.whss50.com. Highlights include tours of the school and concerts at the Bayshore Community Centre on Friday and Saturday.

The Big Music Fest will open its gates at 1 p.m. at Kelso Beach Park, and the City has arranged for special shuttle buses and parking for the event.

The YMCA will oversee the parking, creating roughly 900 spaces near the Visitor Information Centre on 1st Ave. West and additional spots (including handicapped spaces) at Kelso Beach. The cost is $10, and all money will go towards the YMCA’s Strong Kids campaign. It has enlisted the help of 100 volunteers to assist with parking, clean-up after the event and selling water and hot dogs. (No food will be allowed inside the gates).
Additional parking will be available at the Owen Sound Legion on 2nd Ave. West and at the West Side Boat launch and Rainbow Boat Club lots on 1st Ave. West.

No parking will be permitted along the Eddie Sargeant Parkway, although downtown parking will remain free over the holiday weekend.

Local residents are being asked to walk, carpool or take a Habitat for Humanity shuttle bus to the site. Shuttle pick-up points are Kelsey’s Restaurant on the east side (where concert tickets may also be purchased), and Colour Your World on 10th Street West. Tickets are $6 and passengers will be dropped off at the West Side Boat launch.

Shuttles will start running at 11:30 a.m. and be available when the concert ends at 10:45 p.m. All proceeds will go towards the charity’s next housing project in Owen Sound.

Habitat is also offering shuttle buses from Wasaga Beach, Collingwood, Thornbury, Meaford, Port Eglin, Southampton, Sauble Beach, Wiarton, Hepworth, Hanover, Durham and Lion’s Head. Shuttle tickets can be ordered online at www.habitatgreybruce.ca or by calling 371-6776 ext. 3. The Big Music Fest will feature the bands Hedley, Our Lady Peace, Matthew Good, Finger Eleven, David Wilcox and Faber Drive.
